When you have beautiful hardwood floors in your home, you probably worry a lot about them being scratched up. It is so easy for it to happen. Someone pushes a piece of furniture and it slides across the floor, or someone walks in with their shoes on and don’t realize there is a sharp stone embedded in the thread of their shoes. While it might seem like your floor is ruined forever, it doesn’t necessarily mean that.
With a little bit of work, you can make the floor look much better after a scratch. If the scratch isn’t too deep, you can smooth out the area around it with some steel wool. Make sure you rub it along with the wood grain. After you have finished, clean up the area really well with some mineral spirits, and then fill the scratch in with some wood filler. Sand it down and then finish it off with polyurethane. For a deeper scratch, you should use a fine grain sandpaper, and then doing the same steps as outlined earlier.
