Would you like to make your landscaping more Florida Friendly? And would you like to spend less time maintaining your plants and save money on pesticide fertilizer and irrigation? If so there are some landscaping tips that might help:

  • It’s important to match plants to the site based on sunlight water and soil. Select plants that are not prone to insect and disease problems.
  • Water efficiently and focus on water conservation. Mini shrubs trees and flowering perennials survive just fine with rainfall alone. Add organic matter to the soil which will help with water retention.
  • Use organic mulch. Add a 1 to 2-inch layer of organic mulch thru-out plant beds to help conserve water, reduce weeds and prevent erosion.
  • Recycle yard waste. Keep grass clippings on the lawn and put other plant debris in the compost pile. Compost can add to the soil and increase the organic matter which reduces the need for water and fertilizer.
  • All of these practices will help reduce irrigation needs, protect water quality, and enhance our environment.
